Airwars assessment
At around 8pm on 27th April 2025, at least 11 civilians, including eight children and two women, were killed and four others, including three children, were injured by alleged US airstrikes on four homes in the Thaqban area in Bani al-Harith District of Sanaa, Yemen.
@TvAlmasirah provided an initial toll of eight citizens killed, including women and children, and others injured. The Ministry of Health and Environment – Yemen posted on Facebook that 12 citizens, including women and children, were killed and four others were injured.
A Facebook post from Ayub Idris identified Ali Yahya Salah Masoud and his “entire family” – his wife, sons, and daughters – as among those killed in the American bombing of the Thaqban area. The post included a photo collage of images of a man, two young girls dressed in red, and two young boys dressed in plaid suit jackets. A post from Yahya Al Ataki named the rest of the family members who were killed – Ali’s wife Amira Saleh Al-Dhaifani and their children Bushra Ali Yahya Salah, Dhikra Ali Yahya Salah, Saleh Ali Yahya Salah, Fatima Ali Yahya Salah and Yahya Ali Yahya Salah.
Source Sanaa Rohi included a screenshot of a Facebook post from an “eyewitness” named Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Sumaini who stated that three homes had been bombed in his neighborhood of Thaqban. In the first home, an entire family, including Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Sumaini’s cousin, Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Sumaini’s daughter’s husband (it is unclear if these are different people or refer to Ali), a father (Ali Yahya Salah Masoud), a mother, four daughters, and two sons were killed and their bodies were not able to be found under the rubble. In the second home, a mother and her son were killed, and in the third home, the eldest son of the family (16 years old or younger) was killed and his younger brother and sister were both injured, and were in the operating room at the time of reporting. A post from Amin Ali Al-Jalal further clarified that the father, mother, and children killed in the first house were Ali Yahya Salah Masoud and his family.
Muhammad Nashwan Al-Jamouli posted a memorial to his mother and his 11-year old brother who were killed in the strikes on their home in the Thaqban area of Bani al-Harith. Muhammad later posted that the funeral for his mother and brother would take place on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Thaqban Bani al-Harith, at nine o’clock in the morning. A post from Morad Rashed memorialized Muhammad’s brother Omar Nashwan Al-Jamouli who he describes as “a king in the form of a child. I have never known a child with such morals and manners in my entire life.” In an accompanying image, Omar is seen wearing a button-up shirt and suit jacket along with black aviator sunglasses.
Mohammed Qais provided a name for the boy killed in the third house – Saddam Hussein Obeid, son of home owner Hussein Obeid, was killed and three members of his family were seriously wounded (including his younger brother and younger sister).
“Children” were also reportedly among those injured, and a video posted by @masdar201 showed at least three different children being treated for their injuries in a hospital – a young boy and two toddler-aged girls, one with a head injury. The mother of one of the toddler-aged girls can be heard saying to her daughter, Sarah, “where does it hurt, where does it hurt?” and he puts his finger to his right eye, and she says “your eye” and then a young man, a relative or potentially the doctor, said “there’s shrapnel”. Images published by @TvAlmasirah also include the three wounded children and a wounded man who appears to have a head injury.
According to @a__250as, 10 Houthis were killed in the Thaqban area. A tweet from @aalnaasi claimed that an activist named Jalal Al-Salahi had published a tweet on April 1, 2025 stating that a home in the Thaqban area of Bani al-Harith District contained a missile launch pad, leading to the US military destroying three homes in the area.
In a video posted by Sanaa Rohi which reportedly shows the seconds just before a US airstrike in the Thaqban area, a man with a young child hanging on his back can be seen running by and a little over five seconds later, a loud explosion can be heard and a flash of light can be seen. According to Mohammed Qais, six raids were carried out. Middle East Eye spoke with a witness named Mohammed who said that the strikes wiped out four homes “in the blink of an eye”, including the home of Ali. “The strike hit the house at 8pm, killing the entire family. We rushed to the scene, searching for them in the rubble. We didn’t find their bodies. They were just pieces of flesh. It was a horrendous scene of unspeakable cruelty” said Mohammed. Middle East Eye also referred to “At least two anonymous accounts” (specifically citing @VleckieHond) who claimed that the Thaqban area was an underground Houthi military position, which could have been used by CENTCOM – the tweets cited have since been deleted.
Images from Abdulaziz Al-Shuaie show a partially destroyed cement building and a window and child’s doll can be seen strewn in the rubble. An image of a completely destroyed truck published by @alewsh100 also reportedly occurred from the strike.
A video published by “Yamakharij Alakhjaf Lawdaf” (originally by @TvAlmasirah) purportedly shows the “initial scenes” after the strike in Thaqban – a two-storey cement home sustained damage to one side which suffered collapsed walls and ceilings, multiple rooms of a one-storey home were collapsed which destroyed shelves and other furniture, the clothes of what appears to be a sewing area were destroyed in a third home, and a fourth home which was damaged. A graphic video posted by @TvAlmasirah includes blood amongst the rubble of a building with people’s possessions crushed amongst the rubble.
Where sources identified a belligerent, all sources attributed the strikes to the US.
The incident occured at approximately 8:00 pm local time.
