Airwars assessment
Shortly before 14:30 on Sunday, 1 December 2024, an airstrike hit the area near the Iranian consulate in the al-Izaa neighbourhood of Aleppo (also referred to as “radio area”), Syria, reportedly injuring a number of civilians. The attack was allegedly carried out by Syrian and/or Russian military aircraft.
Initial information about the attack began circulating on Facebook at around 14:30. The few images available showed a large column of smoke and dust rising over the residential area. While no details have been given on the number and severity of casualties, a video posted on ORNET showed at least two wounded. The video showed several civilians on the street next to a damaged building, one of them, a teenager or a young man, limping with blood running from his forehead. A few seconds later, a group of people left the building, carrying a wounded man and loading him into a van.
While some sources simply stated that the strike hit a residential area, others seemed to suggest that militants were attacked, specifically a gathering of members of the Jabhat al-Nusra group. There was no information about possible casualties among the militants.
Where sources identified the belligerent, all sources attributed the strike to the Syrian regime and/or Russian military.
The incident occured at approximately 2:30 pm local time.
